The City of Karratha is calling on residents to get prepared for the upcoming Local Government Elections.
Residents have until 22 August to ensure their details are up to date with the Electoral Commission.
Nominations will open 28 August and close at 4pm, 4 September 2025 with five seats to be contested for the 18 October election.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the election was a chance for locals to take an active role in the future of the City by nominating for council.
“The first step is to ensure your details are up to date and correct on the electoral roll,” Cr Scott said.
“Serving on Council is a chance to make a real difference for the community, by being on Council you are doing the peoples work and actively making a change.”
“Councillors are the voice of the community, working together to plan for growth, protect our lifestyle, and ensure our region continues to be a great place to live, work, and invest.”
Cr Scott said he was urging locals to take the opportunity to vote in the October election.
“Local Government Elections generally have a voter turnout of 25 per cent, this means only one in four people are voting for who they want representing them at the Council table,” Cr Scott said.
“Local Government plays a massive role in our community, from maintaining parks, roads, and recreational facilities, to delivering events and programs, supporting local businesses, and advocating to State and Federal Government on critical issues like housing, healthcare, and regional investment.”
“Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for the voting packs to be in your mailbox, information on where to drop off completed packs will be on our website and Facebook page.”
This year’s election will see representation reduce from 10 to nine Elected Members as part of the State Governments Local Government Reforms.
