Spraying and slashing update

The City of Karratha is actively managing vegetation and maintaining public spaces to ensure they remain safe, clean and accessible for everyone. Below is an update on our ongoing spraying and slashing efforts:

Completed spraying areas

  • Baynton Drive trees - spraying around trees has been successfully completed.
  • Bayview - operations in the Bayview area are now complete.
  • Dampier Highway (Balmoral Rd to Dreamers Hill) - targeted spraying has been carried out along this section.
  • Bulgarra open spaces – spraying has been completed, although regrowth has been observed in drainage areas due to increased moisture.
  • Culverts and underpasses - priority spraying was completed in eastern corridor culverts, including Karratha and Dampier, to manage vegetation and support water flow.

Upcoming spraying works

  • Footpaths & school access routes - spraying will continue along internal and external footpaths, focusing on safe access around schools ahead of the holiday period.
  • Spray buggy update - the buggy has been out of service for three weeks due to mechanical issues but is expected to be back in operation within the next two weeks.

Completed slashing areas

  • Roebourne, Wickham, Point Samson, Airport, Bulgarra, Baynton - slashing has been finalised in these areas, improving access and managing overgrowth.

Current slashing works

  • Nickol - slashing commenced on 17 March and is expected to finish by 18 April.
  • Millars Well (open areas) - slashing started on 14 April, with completion anticipated by 9 May.

Upcoming slashing works

Once Millars Well is complete, crews will move into:

  • Pegs Creek
  • Light Industrial Area (LIA)
  • Gap Ridge

These areas are scheduled for completion by late May.
