Residents and commercial customers can dispose of green waste year-round at the City's waste services facilities. See commercial fees and charges for commercial customers.

Pre-cyclone green waste collection

Residents receive free, annual green waste collection services to help you prepare your yard ahead of cyclone season. 
Collection dates are staggered throughout each of our five towns in the lead up to cyclone season each year. Town/suburb specific dates are announced each August/September and have traditionally been conducted throughout September.

Preparing for your pre-cyclone season verge collection

• Place only green waste out for collection.
• Cut pieces shorter than 1.5m in length. 
• Keep clear space between your collection pile and any fences, water meters, power poles, vehicles and trailers, letter boxes, Telstra pits, driveways and garden beds. 
• Place green waste on your verge up to two weeks before your collection date. 
• Do not include leaf litter and lawn clippings as part of these collections, as they may blow away and cause a litter problem. 
• Ensure your collection pile follows these instructions, as items not meeting the criteria are not able to be collected. 

2024 placement dates

Please ensure green waste is placed verge side no earlier than two weeks prior and no later than one day before collection for your suburb starts.

26 August - 8 September: Residents in Bulgarra, Karratha CBD, Millars Well, and Pegs Creek should be placing green waste verge-side during this time for a 9 September start of collection.

2 - 15 September: Residents in Baynton, Baynton West, Madigan Estate, Nickol, Nickol West, Tambrey should be placing green waste verge-side during this time for a 16 September start of collection.

9 - 22 September: Residents in Cheeditha, Dampier, Point Samson, Roebourne, and Wickham should be placing green waste verge-side during this time for a 23 September start of collection.

Our pre-cyclone season green waste verge collection has wrapped up, with 201.5 tonnes of potential cyclone hazards cleared away. We also had 19 seniors in our community take us up on our offer of free yard cleanup assistance.

The collected green waste will now be shredded, ready to be used as mulch and soil conditioner in our local parks and gardens.

If you missed this year’s collection, don’t worry – our 7 Mile Waste Facility and Roebourne/Wickham Transfer Stations remain free for residential use, open daily from 7am to 4.30pm (except on Christmas, Good Friday, and New Year’s Day)

Support for Seniors

Support for seniors living within the City of Karratha is available ahead of cyclone season, providing assistance with general garden maintenance and pruning.
