Pound

While the City of Karratha is a pet-friendly city, it’s also important we protect the natural environment and native animals.

If your dog is found wandering in public or in a private property without the owner’s consent, for your dog’s safety and that of other animals, Ranger Services may need to seize the dog and take it to the City’s Animal Pound facility.

Impounded dogs may be claimed by appointment on weekdays between 3.30pm and 4.30pm.

If your dog is impounded a fee will apply, this must be paid before release. Dogs must also be registered and microchipped before being released from the impound.

If your dog is found by one of our Rangers and is wearing a current City registration tag, we will try to contact you. It’s important that the contact details attached to your dogs registration and your microchip provider are current, so you can be reunited with your pet if they are lost. =

Suitable impounded dogs may be rehomed:

  • Where no owner is identified and they are not claimed, after a minimum of 72 hours.
  • Where an owner is identified and a seizure notice has been issued, but the owner fails to come forward for their dog after a minimum of 7 days.

Visit the SAFE website to see current rescue animals who are looking for a new home.
