The City of Karratha is a pet-friendly City. It’s also important that we protect the natural environment and native animals.
If your cat is found wandering in public or in a private property without the owner’s consent, for your cat’s safety and that of other animals, Ranger Services may need to seize and impound your cat.
If your cat is impounded fees will apply to have it released, which must be paid before it can be released. The Cat Act 2011 requires your cat is registered, microchipped and sterilised before it is released from the Cat pound.
If your cat is found by one of our Rangers and is wearing a current City registration tag, we will try to contact you. It’s important to keep your contact details current with your cat’s registration with the City, and with your microchip provider, so you can be reunited with your pet if they are lost.
Update your contact details on the City’s website to make sure they are current.
Suitable impounded cats may be rehomed:
- Where no owner is identified and they are not claimed, after a minimum of 72 hours.
- Where an owner is identified and a notice has been issued, but the owner fails to come forward for their cat after a minimum of 7 days.
