Youth Advisory Group nomination form

The Youth Advisory Group (YAG) is a partnership between young people and the City of Karratha Council. Its purpose is to make sure young people’s ideas, skills, perspectives and contributions are heard and valued by Council leaders, and we invite YAG's input across a range of City functions.

We are currently accepting nominations from young people living in the City of Karratha who would like to be considered for the Youth Advisory Group. Nominations close on Friday 9 February, 2024.

As a City of Karratha YAG member you must:

  • be aged between 11 and 18 years of age at the time of application;
  • live in the City of Karratha (Dampier, Karratha, Roebourne, Wickham or Point Samson);
  • be involved in the local community e.g. be part of a sports club or community group, volunteer;
  • have an interest in wellbeing, community services, youth events and activities, leadership and helping other young people in the community;
  • have the ability to work in a team, respect others and participate in group discussions, as well as work independently;
  • be able to think about the big picture;
  • be motivated, willing and committed to participate on an ongoing basis;
  • be able to be part of YAG without letting it interfere with the other important things in your life, like school, work, and family;
  • be willing to be actively involved in conversations and contribute to discussions in a variety of environments and platforms.

 What else is really important?

  • Representation from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and other cultural and language backgrounds;
  • Access to the internet and phone is important but we may be able to help with a place where you can access these.

Time commitment:
YAG meets face-to-face once a month (unless otherwise agreed), and in between these meetings contact will be maintained through email and Facebook. There is an expectation that outside of formal meetings, all YAG members will maintain regular contact with the group. Face-to-face meetings will be held in a variety of locations across the City of Karratha - where possible, we will try and provide suitable transport options.
