An accessible amenity is under construction at Saylor Park.
Saylor Park, located on the western side of the Wickham Recreation Precinct (WRP), is a vital sports and leisure facility serving the eastern corridor.
In 2022, a feasibility study was commissioned to assess priority improvements for the WRP. This study, coupled with strong community demand, highlighted the need for a new public unisex accessible amenity as a key priority. In response, the City and Rio Tinto have progressed with the development. This upgrade aims to provide modern, accessible facilities that cater to a wide range of users and enhance the overall experience for visitors to the park.
Design of the new accessible amenity started in October 2024, with the project expected to be completed by April 2025. The new facility will include a universal accessible toilet, a baby changing station, and other essential features, all designed to meet the highest standards of accessibility and safety. The prefabricated structure will be built off-site and will feature a range of modern design elements, such as an insulated roof, weatherboard exterior, and a functional, easy-to-maintain interior.
This upgrade will not only address local demand but will also contribute to the ongoing improvement of the Wickham Recreation Precinct, benefiting the entire community.
