Project overview
At the March Ordinary Council Meeting, the City of Karratha Council resolved not to proceed with the Walgu Apartments Development, which included the acquisition of Lot 7020 and part of Lot 7018 on Welcome Road, Karratha.
Despite this change, the City remains committed to working with interested parties to develop this land and support Karratha’s continued growth.
The City will actively seek opportunities to collaborate with developers and stakeholders to explore new potential developments for the site. Development approved plans and costings are available for review to assist developing who are considering progressing with the site.
If you would like to discuss potential development opportunities, please feel free to contact us at citygrowth@karratha.wa.gov.au.
Other housing initiatives
The City of Karratha is not slowing down in its efforts to increase housing and land supply in the region. Current and upcoming projects include:
- The construction of nine houses on Lazy Lands in Nickol.
- The design and construction of two houses in Jingarri Estate.
- A twenty-lot subdivision in Hancock Way, Bulgarra, with the construction of six dwellings following the subdivision.
- Proposed development of 37 dwellings at Lot 481 Bajamalu Drive, Baynton.
- Proposed development of 116 apartments in Bulgarra.
Whilst housing is not ordinarily a local government issue, this proposal has very clear linkages to the City’s approved Strategic Community Plan 2020-2030 and the City has been working proactively to assist with solving this issue alongside regularly advocating with State and Federal Government, critical industry groups, real estate agents and other key stakeholders.
