A new City of Karratha Mayor and three councillors have been sworn in following the 2023 Local Government Election on Saturday 21 October.
This year saw several changes to the election process including the public election of the mayor and the abolishment of the current ward system to a single district.
A total of five candidates contested for the Mayoral position with electors publicly deciding their Mayor for the first time.
Cr Daniel Scott was elected by the public to serve as City of Karratha Mayor for a term of four years.
Meanwhile in the council ballot a total of 11 candidates contested three vacancies on Council.
Brenton Johannsen, Sarah Roots and Tony Simpson were elected to serve four-year terms.
A total of 3,295 ballot papers were returned for the Mayor election, representing 26% voter turnout rate.
A total of 3,017 ballot papers were returned for the Council election, representing just under 24% voter turnout rate.
The new council will meet for the next Ordinary Council Meeting on Monday 30 October at 6pm.
