Council has agreed to provide sponsorship for the upcoming five-day festival celebrating Banjima culture.
The Karijini Experience is a five-day event celebrating the Banjima culture in the spectacular gorges and surrounds of the remote and rugged Karijini National Park.
Event organisers CMS on behalf of the Banjima Native Title Aboriginal Corporation requested funding under the City’s Major Event Sponsorship and Attraction Program, the City most recently provided sponsorship for the 2021 event.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the City sponsored the event because of the boost it brings to tourism in the Pilbara, and in Karratha in particular.
“The Karijini Experience provides a diverse and inclusive program of authentic, high-quality cultural, art, food and music experiences designed to connect people to the homeland of the Banjima people and the landscape of Karijini National Park,” Cr Long said.
“We have proudly provided sponsorship over the last few years and are happily providing sponsorship for this year’s event.
“I am looking forward to this year’s Karijini Experience and to see the boost it brings for tourism in the Pilbara.”
