Community groups receive more than $180,000 in grants

More than $180,000 has been awarded to local community and sporting organisations across the City of Karratha through Council’s Biannual Community Grants Scheme.

Councillors approved nine applications for financial assistance at the September Council meeting, including $45,000 to Indigenous Emerging Business Forum for a community concert and $12,523 for the Roebourne Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service.

Also among the groups to receive funding were the Karratha Family Centre with $24,622 for an Indigenous Outdoor Creation and Nickol Bay Sports Fishing Club for their Billfish Shootout.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the grants scheme offered a broad range of local groups, associations and individuals’ financial support to deliver programs, events, and services that benefit the community.

“A thriving community is vital to achieving Council’s vision to become Australia’s most liveable regional city,” Cr Long said.

“These groups are the heart and soul of Karratha and bring together our community. Every year the City allocates $500,000 in funding through its Large Community Grants program.

“These grants reflect the Council’s commitment to support local organisations whose work makes our City such an enjoyable place to live.”
