City of Karratha Councillors on Monday agreed to provide the Pilbara Tourism Association a $9,000 grant to support its Warlu Way Marketing Project.
The new funding will help the PTA to drive increased visitation, length of stay, and visitor spend in Karratha and the Pilbara region and increase economic activity in the tourism industry.
The Warlu Way Marketing Project was launched by the Pilbara Tourism Association with support from the City in 2021 to raise the profile of Karratha and the Pilbara region as a tourism destination.
During its initial phase, Council provided $15,000 to support the initiative which included developing content and delivering a range of marketing initiatives in print, social media and television advertisements.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said Council is excited to be supporting the project.
“Providing the grant to the Pilbara Tourism Association will help improve tourism opportunities in the region and help Karratha be seen as a must-see experience,” Cr Long said.
“The Warlu Way Marketing Project is a great initiative that is looking to build on its success in raising the profile of the Pilbara as a tourist destination.”
Mayor Long said helping local tourism-related businesses grow would help make Karratha the most liveable regional City.
“Council is proud to support our local tourism industry and looks forward to supporting the Pilbara Tourism Association with this innovative project,” Cr Long said.
