The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Meeting of Mining Regions and Cities will travel to Karratha in June.
The event was hosted by Chile in 2017, Darwin in 2018 and Sweden in 2019.
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an international organisation that works to build better policies for better lives, comprising 38 member countries including Australia.
The goal of the organisation is to shape policies that foster prosperity, equality, opportunity and well-being for all. It draws on 60 years of experience and insights to better prepare the world of tomorrow.
Held at Red Earth Arts Precinct, the conference will see international delegates descend on Karratha to discuss the topic of Diversification, green value chains and Liveable and sustainable mining communities.
City of Karratha Deputy Mayor Kelly Nunn said the conference would bring delegates from across Australia and the world to the Pilbara.
“This high-profile conference is an opportunity for the City of Karratha showcase our ongoing efforts to become Australia’s most liveable regional city,” Cr Nunn said.
“Hosting the OECD Meeting of Mining Regions and Cities will promote our status as the engine room of Australia to an international contingent of representatives from all levels of government and the private sector.”
Cr Nunn said the OECD Meeting of Mining Regions and Cities will bring together a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, industry representatives, and community leaders.
“This will provide a platform for sharing best practices and innovative solutions for sustainable development in mining regions and cities, and gives Karratha the opportunity to be at the forefront of shaping this innovation,” Cr Nunn said.
