Innovation hub proof of concept receives City of Karratha grant

An innovative opportunity to create a hub for entrepreneurs and inventors in Karratha has received a grant worth more than  $30,000.

Woodbines Enterprises SEED by Space2Grow project aims to provide a suitably equipped office space for founders, inventors, and entrepreneurs to explore and develop their business ideas in an “Innovation Hub.”

City of Karratha councillors approved a motion to provide Woodbines with $32,750 to support the delivery of a proof of concept for the hub’s development.

The funding is part of the Economic Development Grant, established in 2020, to attract diverse and sustainable business and employment opportunities to the City of Karratha.

At this week’s meeting, Councillors committed to $457,625 in grants funding over the next three years through its Economic Development Grants and Business Development Support Grants.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the Space2Grow project was an exciting opportunity to develop a technical-based co-working space in Karratha.

“This is a chance to provide suitably equipped office space for founders, inventors, and entrepreneurs to explore and develop their business ideas and diversify the local employment opportunities in our region.

“The City of Karratha is always looking to attract diverse and sustainable business and employment opportunities locally,” Cr Long said.

“Given this, Woodbines has been awarded a grant to help fund its Proof of Concept for the Space2Grow project.”
