The Pilbara’s only fully greened golf course has been recognised for its high-quality facilities at the State’s top Golf industry awards night.
The facility was named the Regional Golf Facility of the Year at the recent WA Golf Industry Awards.
A $2.1 million refurbishment of the course was completed in 2022 which saw the 17 remaining greens grassed and the facility brought to a resort standard.
Plans to refurbish the golf course were initiated in early 2014, whereby a masterplan featuring a staged approach to works was adopted to design and build the course.
The Karratha Country Club entered a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the City which has fostered a partnership of shared responsibility for the course upgrades and enabled works to progress.
Other works have included the installation of a new Chipping Green, new Tee boxes built and renovated for improving drainage, and reticulation, planting 75 new trees for improved shade and new distance markers.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the award was a massive achievement for the City and Karratha.
“The Karratha Golf Course, and Karratha Country Club, being recognised with the Regional Golf Facility of the Year shows how great the facility is,” Cr Scott said.
“We have worked hard over the last 10 years to create a resort standard golf course that is truly a standout in the Pilbara.
“I would also like to thank the Karratha Country Club board and their members for the hard work they have and continue to put into the facility, this award is also a recognition of efforts.
“Receiving this award provides recognition for how far Karratha has come as we strive to achieve our goal of making it Australia’s Most Liveable Regional City.”
