Local Government Election Nominations are now open

Are you looking to make a difference in our Community? Nominations are now open for the upcoming Local Government Elections.

The Ordinary Postal Election will be held on Saturday, 21 October 2023 in the City of Karratha for the roles of the Mayor, and three councillors.

Nominations are open until 4pm September 7, and can be made online using the Nomination Builder and lodging your application with the Returning Officer for the City of Karratha.

Recent legislative reforms to the Local Government Act 1995 means there will be changes to how this year’s election is held:

  • Optional preferential voting
  • the public election of the mayor
  • changes the size of the Council
  • Abolishment of the current ward system to a single district

Prospective candidates can make an appointment with the Returning Officer Sharyn Morrow (0448 205 392) anytime between when nominations open on 31 August 2023 and close at 4pm on 7 September 2023.

Please note that your RO appointment may take up to 30 minutes to finalise your application so do not leave your appointment until 3pm as you may risk missing out. Sharyn will be available in Karratha over the weekend of 2-3 September 2023 to meet with anyone and receive their nominations.
