Two popular coastal recreation spots are set to benefit with the launch of a comprehensive online booking and management system for the upcoming camping season.
Residents and locals flock to Cleaverville and Gnoorea (40 Mile) for nature-based camping experiences, four wheel driving, fishing, boating and swimming.
The online booking system is now live allowing locals and visitors to easily book their favourite camping spots at the popular locations from 1 April to 30 September.
The system will provide support to visitors to the camping grounds allowing them to preselect a favourite site or make a selection based on their camping requirements.
It will also assist management of visitor numbers to the popular campsites and ensure that the environmental and cultural values of the campsites are protected in the future.
This comes after the City ran a successful trial of the booking system last September and have since made updates to create a better user experience based on feedback from locals and visitors.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the new system allowed visitors and locals alike to easily book their favourite camp sites and allow for better management of the grounds.
“We are happy to launch our new booking platform to better manage these popular sites as they continue to be used by visitors and locals alike,” Cr Long said.
“Having an online booking system means people are able to plan their holidays in advance and not drive all the way out there to find there are no sites available.
Mayor Long said the City had set aside specific sites at Gnoorea for use by Traditional Owners.
“By setting aside these specific sites, we are able to ensure Traditional Owners can stay at culturally important locations without the risk of these areas being disturbed,” Cr Long said.
WAC General Manager Brian Wall said this is a positive step in the management of the nature-based camp site.
“This online booking system is a great step to managing visitor numbers and protecting the local environment and is part of WAC’s long-term vision for the area,” Mr Wall said.
“We’re really pleased to be working with the City to progress opportunities for Traditional Owners to manage the camping area in the future and continue to have free access to their land and Country.”
