Seeking Cossack Art Awards 2023 Artist in Residence

The City of Karratha is seeking an artist to share their creativity with the local community over four weeks.

The Cossack Art Awards is one of the premier arts and cultural events in the Pilbara as a nationally significant art prize.

The Artist in Residence (AiR) Program, facilitated by the City of Karratha with Principal Partner Rio Tinto, is a $15,000 program where an artist relocates to Cossack for a four-week period.

Running from 17 July to 13 August 2023, the residency is intended as an opportunity for artists to focus on their artistic practice in the unique environment of the historical town of Cossack.

The 2023 Artist in Residence Program is open to all Australian artists.

The Cossack Art Awards, now in its 31st year, run over three weeks from 23 July- 13 August.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the Artist in Residency program was highly anticipated by local creatives.

“The program gives our emerging artists the opportunity to engage with renowned creatives and learn new techniques and ways to improve their own creative process,” he said.

“I encourage artists from across Australia to apply for the residency program.”

More information can be found in the Artist in Residence Application Pack. Completed application forms can be sent via email to cossack.art@karratha.wa.gov.au or posted to PO Box 219, Karratha, WA, 6714.

Applications close 5pm Tuesday February 28, 2023.
