The City of Karratha is searching for an artist to share their creativity and skills with the local community over four weeks.
As a nationally significant art prize, the Cossack Art Awards are one of the premier arts and cultural events in the Pilbara.
In 2024 the Artist in Residence Program, facilitated by the City of Karratha with Principal Partner Rio Tinto, has been given a $5,000 boost, bringing it to a whopping $20,000 program where an artist relocates to Cossack for a four-week period.
Running from 15 July 2024 to 11 August 2024, the residency is an opportunity for artists to focus on their practice in the unique environment of the historical town of Cossack.
The 2024 Artist in Residence Program is open to all Australian artists.
The Cossack Art Awards, established in 1992, will run over three weeks from 21 July 2024 to 11 August 2024.
The Artist in Residence program will support the appointed artist by providing $20,000 to cover the cost of accommodation provided by the City of Karratha, with the remaining funds covering the artist’s fee, travel, art supplies and living expenses during their residency.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the Artist in Residency program was highly anticipated by local creatives.
“The program provides our emerging artists with the opportunity to learn from renowned creatives and improve their own creative processes,” he said.
“I encourage artists from across Australia to apply for this fantastic residency program. Spending four weeks in the beautiful historic town of Cossack, will evoke the emotions an artist searches for to get immense inspiration and this will leave a lasting impression they will forever be grateful for”.
