A project to transform the main street of Roebourne and renovate the town centre is a step closer with Council awarding the tender for the construction of the first two phases of works.
City of Karratha Councillors awarded the tender for the works to The Artisan Co at Monday’s Council Meeting.
The Roebourne Streetscape Master Plan, developed in consultation with the community, is a long-term transformative project aimed at rejuvenating the streets of Roebourne.
The tender for the first two phases of Stage One of the Master Plan includes the upgrade and activation of the Queen, Withnell, Padbury, and Wellard Street intersections, and the infill between Withnell and Wellard Streets.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said he was pleased to award the construction tender and looked forward to the commencement of on-the-ground works.
“The design for this project has been informed by the Roebourne community and we will continue to consult with locals during the subsequent stages,” Cr Scott said.
“We will continue to work with stakeholders and the community to make sure they are up to date with the progress of the Streetscape Masterplan.”
Cr Scott said the initial works were part of an overarching objective of revitalising the town centre’s streetscape.
“Council’s vision for this project is to strengthen links to existing natural assets such as the Ngurin, enhance amenities as well as encouraging cultural expression in the townsite,” Cr Scott said.
Both Rio Tinto and Woodside have supported the first phase of the project.
